Flow Analysis

AI in the gaming industry is evolving exponentially. At Lucid we use a gaming software called Unity, so this wealth of behaviour based AI assets are at our fingertips. Usually reserved to help generate enemies who are "smarter" and appear to have intelligence we applied this innovation to the real estate industry.

Bank of Scotland were working on an evolutionary redesign of their Flagship Branch in Glasgow, the busiest bank branch in the UK. Lucid were asked to analyse the new design and its impact on customer journeys and flow. Using existing customer data, Lucid created AI versions of the current footfall and tasks carried out within the existing branch. We then simulated how the same group of customers might behave and move within the new layout design. By introducing randomness based on probability curves of how long a task would take and when someone entered the store, we were able to accurately simulate how the branch might operate.

Results included the ability to extract graphs of customer flow and queue times. Stakeholders and design teams could then view 3D timelapse versions of "a day in the life" of the branch. Working in unison with the design team to iterate design layouts and machine and counter combinations resulted in an optimal and future proofed layout for their flagship store.
